Destructing Elements in Maya With PullDownIt: Part 10

1. Creating Wall

Step 1

Open Maya.

Step 2

Go to Create > Polygon Primitives > Cube and create a wall
like structure in the perspective view port.

2. Creating the Cloth

Step 1

Create a plane in the perspective view port and put it over the wall as
shown in the following image.

Step 2

With the plane selected, go to Attribute Editor and increase the
values of Subdivisions Width and Subdivisions Height to 80.

Step 3

Jump in the nDynamics mode.

With the plane selected, go to nMesh > Create nCloth.

With the wall selected, go to nMesh > Create Passive Collider.

Step 6

Hit the Play button for simulation and you can see that the cloth
has landed perfectly on the wall.

3. Creating the Shatter

Step 1

With the wall selected, click on the ShatterIt feature
icon.

Step 2

In the ShatterIt feature window, set the values of Num Shards
to 64 and Shatter Style to Uniform and click on Shatter

4. Applying the Fracture

Step 1

Click on the PDI Basic Fractures icon as shown in the following
image.

Step 2

It opens the PDI Basic Fractures window. With the
wall chunks selected, click on Create.

Step 3

It opens the Set up Fracture Body window. Change the Name as Fbody0
and click on Accept button.

Step 4

Click on the PDI Basic Fractures icon once again. Now, you will see
the Fbody0 fracture body in the list. Change the values of Mass
to 100, Hardness to 20% and Clusterize% to 80.
Close the window.

5. Creating the Colliding Object

Step 1

Create a sphere in the view port as shown in the following image.

With the ball selected, click on Create Pdi Body
icon.

Step 3

It opens the Create Rigid Body window. Set the value of Type
to Dynamic and turn on Mesh radio button.

With the ball selected, click on Set Pdi Dynamics

icon.

Step 5

It opens the Pdi Dynamics Properties window. Set the value of Initial
Velocity
in X axis to 30.

Step 6

Hit the Play button to see the simulation. You can see the cloth is
not reacting with the chunks.

With the wall chunks selected, go to nMesh > Create
Passive Collider
.

In the Outliner window, delete nRigid1.

With the sphere selected, go to nMesh > Create Passive
Collider

Create a cube and make it as the ground as shown in the
following image.

With the ground selected, go to nMesh > Create Passive Collider.

Hit the Play button to see the simulation.
